Joy Beckley
My love for ‘Art’ began when I was a young girl. Drawing lines, circles, pictures of faces, animals and old buildings. I was always scribbling on papers trying to draw what I saw. Then, later on, I began to notice the trees, clouds and more of ‘mother nature’.
I first got into Acrylic painting taking lessons through University of Alberta Extension – evening courses, and fell in love with the easy way a person could express themselves with paint and a brush. Watercolors became my next interest. I took evening courses and fell in love with it. Painting with watercolors was a completely different way to express myself. To become an ‘artist’, one must learn the rules of design and be willing to trust their instincts and intuition. In watercolors – what we paint on the paper, stays on the paper! I have been very fortunate to have taken lessons from some great artists! Douglas H. Teller – a well known artist in the Sarasota, Florida. I also took classes at the Art Center in Manatee and Longboat Keys at Anna Maria Island. Anne Abgott is a Canadian painter living in Florida. She is well known for the watercolor book she wrote about ‘pouring the paints’. Pen & Ink – a course I took from Steve Carter. The last few years I have been in Mexico learning how to do OILS! I have taken lessons from Efren Gonzalez and Victor Ramero in Ajijic,Jalisco, Mx.
